SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS/SCHOOL VISITS

I am available for speaking engagements, as well as school and library visits. I have spoken to both middle grade and high school students about a variety of subjects including my personal experiences as a queer Iranian-American, the power of creativity, Iranian history, and how to carve a career in publishing, film and / or television.

I have also taught screenwriting at UCLA Extension, and am available to run writing workshops.

Contact for speaking engagements and school visits is The Author Village.

TESTIMONIALS

“Working equally well with both large and small audiences, Abdi is a highly engaging and talented speaker.  With his affable style and candid wit, he connects well with students of all ages.  He moves between topics with ease, covering scholarly concepts, such as the current political climate in Iran, screenwriting and filmmaking, writing, and the contemporary issues that deeply resonate with teens.  He is highly recommended as a speaker and discussion leader.”

“Abdi spoke to the students at my school on several occasions, in different formats, and to both a small crowd and a group of 100 9th graders. In both arenas, Abdi tailored his topic to be relevant and interesting, and engaged both groups for a good chunk of time. He is equally adept at leading small, intimate conversations about identity as he is giving large, informative and scholarly presentations on his craft. Our students responded positively to his time with them, and his talks provided much fodder for classroom conversations. I cannot recommend Abdi highly enough; if you have the chance to book him at your school, take it! The students will thank you for it.” –
